George Carr: A Retrospective Art Exhibit

The Harrisburg District Library is thrilled to host a small collection of George Carr artwork. George Carr was a local teacher and artist. He painted many watercolor and oil paintings of Southern Illinois. Private collectors have graciously allowed the library to display a few pieces of his art for the month of June. The exhibit is on display in the Barnes Conference Room of the library’s basement. Please stop by any time the library is open and no programs are happening to check it out!

Ignite Lab is the new name for PNG, a grant program designed for public libraries to mentor youth ages 10-18 in gaining life skills, developing skills to use various technologies, and engaging students in educational programs. Our library has participated in this grant program since 2001! Ignite Lab is open to all students in middle school AND high school.

Teen Readers Theatre

Calling all the teens who love theater and reading! Ages 12-18 are welcome to participate in Readers Theatre at the Harrisburg District Library. Auditions will be on June 11th, with practice being every Thursday in June and July on the Lawn at the Library. Auditions will be in a group setting and there will be no solo reading, so no need to come with anything prepared as everything will be provided. Every child will receive a part. Our scripts will come from Stories on Stage by Aaron Shepard and will be suitable for all ages. Readers Theater is designed for children to have their script in their hands while performing, so no memorization will be needed! We will be performing on July 30th at the Township Park with more details to come.

American Girl celebrates 40 years! Bring along your American Girl Doll (Or any doll that you have!) to enjoy tea and snacks with Miss Emily and Miss Hadleigh at the library. After a snack, enjoy games and crafts with your doll. This event is come and go, but Bingo will start at 11:30am. This is open to ages 5-12, with siblings welcome. Please attend with your child if they are under the age of 7. Activities will be geared directly towards the 5-12 age group.

Adult Dungeons & Dragons Session Zero for Campaign 2

Adults 18 and up are more than welcome to join this Session Zero with Dungeon Master Jeff. Jeff will be leading you through the story of Lost Mines of Phandelver where you will be focused on finding the lost mine as part of a mining expedition crew. This campaign will be featuring gold and jewels as replacements for standard gold pieces, and mini games for finding treasure. Come learn about this campaign and the places it will take you while developing characters that align with the story! This initiative allows for free 20-minute meetings to assist you with legal coaching, document review, referrals to additional community services, and legal questions. Free Summer Concert

Join The Action Team for a Better Saline County and Harrisburg District Library at the Harrisburg Amphitheater (121 North Veterans Drive) for a 7 pm sunset concert! We will have two opening acts (Lillian Crawford and TBD) and then headliner Isaiah Cunningham.

Bring your dinner or grab some food and snacks from the food trucks.

This family friendly event will feature a book walk sponsored by the Southeastern Illinois Community Health Coalition's Healthy Lifestyles Action Team.

Funding for this event was provided by a grant from Artspace Southern Illinois's Southern Arts fund, and partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council as well as from Funding Good Chaos and generous private donors.
