Genealogy Work Day
Join Ms. Sherry, our genealogy librarian, to trace your roots at Genealogy Work Day! She will be available to assist with your family history research. You'll also have access to resources such as microfilms, local history books, and online databases such as Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest. Open to those with or without a library card!
Board Game Afternoon for Teens
Teens, enjoy an analog afternoon of board games, card games, and Lo-Fi music in the background. Bring your friends and enjoy games like Monopoly, Battleship, Uno, Sorry, and more! Light snacks and drinks will be provided. This event is only for middle and high school students, and there is no library card required to join in on the fun.
Pumpkin Painting for Adults
Get creative this fall at the library! Join us for an evening of pumpkin painting — no carving, just paint, brushes, and your imagination. Pumpkins and supplies provided while they last. This event is for adults only.
Graphic Novel Book Club for Kids
A new book club at Harrisburg District Library for 8-12 year olds: Graphic Novel Book Club! Hosted by Ms. Emily, we'll meet up for a different book each month! We'll chat about our book, have a snack, and wrap up with an activity or craft. We'll even pick the next book for our club meeting! There will be copies at the circulation desk available for checkout.
Coffee & Crime Book Club
Are you ready to solve a case? Are you seeking some thrills? Or, are you looking for a story full of suspense? Join us for Coffee & Crime where each month will feature a different book or author. This book club is open to adults only, please. We’ll meet on a Tuesday evening (3rd or 4th Tuesday) monthly from 6-7pm.
For October, we’ll read We Solve Murders by Richard Osman and meet to discuss. The book can be requested from another library!
Teen Foodie Club: Chopped Edition!
You have been selected to compete on the Harrisburg Library’s new reality cooking show - Foodie Club: Chopped Edition! Each competitor will have 10 minutes to create a fun dish out of their mystery basket of ingredients. Your end goal is to impress the judge, Miss Kaitlyn with your creative foodie skills - if not, you will be Chopped! All supplies will be provided for this activity and there is no library card required to join in on the fun! This is a teens event only, please.

Are you a quilter? Do you love to sew? Do you want to learn how to sew and/or quilt? Be sure to join us at Quilting and Sewing Club where are all levels are welcome. Feel free to bring your own supplies, but also you can use some of our stash. Open to high schoolers and adults.

Thursday Night Book Discussion with Arla Murphy
Join us at the library each month as a community member leads us in a discussion on a book of their choice. Light refreshments are provided, and all are welcome. October’s discussion will be led by Arla Murphy. She will be discussing The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. Join us whether you've finished the book, started it, or haven't read it at all.
Toddler Dance Party: Spooky Edition
Dance on down to the library! Open to toddlers 2 and up. Dance to some great tunes and jam out with Miss Emily. There will be glow sticks and costumes are encouraged!
Teen Fun Night: Halloween Party!
Calling all the monsters! Tween and Teen ghosts and ghouls are welcome at this Halloween Party. Throw on your best costume for the season and come enjoy all the festivities! This Hallow-Party will include a costume contest, a candy apple making bar, dirty soda stand, candy and candy corn galore, and fun games to celebrate the spooky season. Join us for a good time if you dare! This is a tween and teen only event with no library card (or costume) required to join in on the fun.
All Ages Spooky Art
Happy Halloween! Join Miss Kaitlyn for a fun ghost painting activity. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. This is an all ages event with no library card required to attend!
Period Presentation & Period Party!
Join us for the evening as we celebrate that the Harrisburg Library was recently able to place free pads and tampons in all of our restrooms for patron use as needed. This Period Party explores what menstruation is, how to prepare for it, and why it's not-so-scary. Plus, it is a great conversation-starter for parents! Join us at 5 PM as Diane Hopkins from Egyptian Health discusses Menstrual Health in a safe space. As the evening continues, take part in decorating your own period kit bag and filling it with supplies, and enjoy themed snacks and drinks, as well as educational demonstrations, books, and posters. We will be accepting period supplies donations during the event, but donations are not required in order to attend. This is an all-ages event that is geared towards tweens and teens, but everyone is welcome. No library card required.
Teen Paint Swap
We've all seen the viral trend of painting and swapping your canvas, and we want in on the fun! Each art canvas will be swapped every 3 minutes as you and your friends work together on a masterpiece in the making. You don't need to be the next Picasso to head out to the library and give this fun activity a try! All supplies will be provided during this activity - no library card required. Who's ready for Fall?! Get in the autumn mood by taking a nature walk with Miss Kaitlyn and picking out beautiful leaves to take back to the Library to make art with. We will try a few different ways of using the leaves; stamping, outlining, and more! This is a tween and teens event only (ages 8-18), with no library card required.
Lawyer in the Library
Stop by the library as a local lawyer hosts a session of Lawyer in the Library! This initiative allows for free 20-minute meetings to assist you with legal coaching, document review, referrals to additional community services, and legal questions. Just bring any paperwork that relates to your legal matter. There are no fees or pre-registration, but time slots fill up fast as it is first-come, first-serve. You may sign up IN PERSON ONE HOUR before the first session begins.

Come one, come all to the most spectacular event of the year! Join Miss Emily and Miss Kaitlyn for a special edition of A Court of Book Lovers ACOTAR Book Club where you can compete in ACOTAR themed trivia, take your pick of romantasy themed crafts to complete, and enjoy a grazing table complete with a mocktail bar. Win fantasy book themed prizes, discuss your love of books with others, and join in on all the fun the library has to offer. Adults only, please.
Ghost Portrait Art for Tweens
Let’s make some spooky art! Tweens, join Miss Emily for a hands on art project to make not one, but two ghostly pieces to take home! All supplies will be provided. This program is open to tweens ages 8-12.
Stone Soup Shakespeare on the Lawn
Stone Soup Shakespeare is returning to Harrisburg District Library! Join us on the lawn at the library for a performance of "Merry Wives of Windsor.” You won't want to miss their lively performance of this Shakespearean classic. We recommend bringing a blanket or a lawn chair.
